Anchorage District Attorney’s Office - Full-Time

The State of Alaska Department of Law, Criminal Division is seeking an experienced trial attorney and leader for the post of District Attorney in the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office. This is the largest district attorney’s office in the state. It is responsible for prosecution of felony criminal cases in Anchorage as well as all level criminal cases in the Unalaska, Sand Point, and St. Paul courts. It also supervises the Dillingham District Attorney’s Office.

Position Description

The Anchorage District Attorney provides leadership for a staff of 29 attorneys and 26 other paraprofessionals and legal support personnel. The District Attorney is responsible for establishing office protocols and effective relationships with law enforcement, the courts and the general public. The DA works closely with the other criminal justice agencies in a coordinated effort to combat crime. The DA also personally handles a caseload of some of the most significant or high profile cases in addition to administrative and supervisory responsibilities.

The District Attorney position requires the ability think critically and reason logically; the ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing; the ability to work cooperatively with outside entities; the ability to lead legal professionals in a supportive team environment; the ability to manage both the legal and administrative functions of the office; the ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a deadline controlled atmosphere; and the ability to manage numerous matters simultaneously.

State attorneys are in the partially-exempt service and serve at-will at the pleasure of the Attorney General.
