Job Description
The Juneau District Attorney’s Office is hiring a motivated attorney for a full-time assistant district attorney position. Strong oral advocacy skills are required, and prior prosecutorial experience is a plus but not necessary. Candidates must think critically, communicate clearly, and manage multiple cases under tight deadlines.
The office has 4 attorneys and 5 staff in Juneau, and a satellite office in Sitka with 1 attorney and 2 staff. We handle criminal law violations and prosecute misdemeanors in collaboration with the city prosecutor’s office. Responsibilities include trials, pre-trial motions, grand jury presentations, court hearings, and some appellate work. In addition to the single district and three superior court judges in Juneau, this office also covers the Haines, Hoonah, Skagway, Wrangell, and Yakutat courts and offers occasional opportunities to travel to these locations.
Juneau’s incredible scenery is framed by glaciers, mountains, and island-studded waters facing the Pacific Ocean. Juneau has a temperate, oceanic climate and is home to Alaska’s largest national forest, the Tongass National Forest. Mendenhall Glacier is a fifteen-minute drive from downtown Juneau, while Mount Roberts is accessible from downtown via both trails and a tramway.

Estimated Compensation
The table below gives an estimate of compensation based on a combination of judicial clerking and licensed legal experience. The compensation listed in the table represents the base pay. Several locations around Alaska have geographical pay differences. Upon a job offer, you would receive a firm salary quote based on location of position and qualifying experience. Attorneys are eligible to promote from Attorney 1 through 4 with service and acceptable job performance.
