The Department of Law is considered Alaska’s "largest law firm" and chief legal office in civil matters. The Civil Division represents all executive branch agencies, from offices throughout the state, working to serve the public interest in a variety of ways. The Civil Division has offices in Juneau, Fairbanks, Bethel, Kenai, Palmer, and Anchorage, where most of its attorneys reside.

I chose to start my legal career at the Department of Law because it offers interesting and important legal issues; a lot of autonomy and responsibility, even for young lawyers; and the time to get out and enjoy Alaska. Everyone I work with is similarly motivated by public service, interesting questions, and the lives they live outside of work. If you want to do cool work in a cool place, you can’t do better than the Alaska Department of Law.
