Job Description
The Department of Law, Office of Special Prosecutions, is recruiting for a full-time Assistant Attorney General to prosecute child support enforcement matters. This prosecutor is responsible for assisting law enforcement agencies and the Child Support Enforcement Division (CSED) during their investigations, then prosecuting these cases from screening through trial. This prosecutor will work directly with the Child Support Investigation Unit (CSIU) and CSED to ensure the most pressing and difficult child support cases – i.e. cases with the highest arrears and worst payment history, and where traditional administrative enforcement remedies have failed – are aggressively prosecuted.
The prosecutor will also assist in appellate matters pending before the appellate courts involving child support enforcement prosecutions, provide CSED with ongoing legal advice and training in the development of child support enforcement cases, and assist in the development of uniform policies and procedures pertaining to statewide child support enforcement efforts.
The ideal candidate will possess some criminal prosecution experience, be highly self-motivated, be willing to aggressively charge CSED cases, and be able to motivate and manage criminal investigators, including actively participating in all stages of an ongoing investigation from initiation to prosecution. This position requires travel throughout the state, including for trials.

Estimated Compensation
The table below gives an estimate of compensation based on a combination of judicial clerking and licensed legal experience. The compensation listed in the table represents the base pay. Several locations around Alaska have geographical pay differences. Upon a job offer, you would receive a firm salary quote based on location of position and qualifying experience. Attorneys are eligible to promote from Attorney 1 through 4 with service and acceptable job performance.
